Besides the obvious reason of why to stay away from alcoholic drinks all the time of being unhealthy for you, there are more specific reasons you should steer clear of alcohol continuously while on a keto diet. The keto diet is a strict diet that normally means giving up snacks, sweets, and high-carb indulgences like alcohol and soft drinks. Many alcoholic drinks are high in carbs and even low-carb keto-friendly alcoholic beverages are still rich in calories. This means that they could be low in nutrients like protein, vitamins and minerals. Alcohol could also suppress fat burning in your body. Excessive drinking of alcohol could contribute to diabetes, heart disease, liver problems and cancer. Even though there are keto-friendly alcoholic beverages, you do not want to make alcohol a major part of your keto diet. Another option is to add non-alcoholic mixes to the alcohol to lessen the potency as long as they stay in the keto diet range as well.
